- Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest
For the past 14 years more than 12,000 high school students across New Mexico have participated in the Poetry Out Loud state recitation competitions, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and The Poetry Foundation. See our Poetry Out Loud webpage for photos and information on participating in Poetry Out Loud. - Fine Arts Education Act
In 2012, New Mexico Arts commissioned a study of the ten-year impact of the 2003 New Mexico Fine Arts Education Act. Since then, New Mexico Arts has partnered with the New Mexico Public Education Department to produce two additional annual reports on this landmark legislation which makes an education in the arts an entitlement for every student enrolled in public or public charter elementary schools in the state. The research and report was designed to answer questions about number of students served, number of fine arts teachers employed, student outcomes, parental involvement, and professional development opportunities for classroom and fine arts teachers. The reports also present findings on national and state trends in arts education, a synopsis of the statewide winter meeting of all district program coordinators, and the state’s funding formula which determines the allocation of fine arts funds to districts and charter schools.
