Virginia Castellano plans, coordinates, and implements the annual grants application process. Virginia is also the staff liaison for the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Virginia started her career with New Mexico Arts in 1988 and has worked in positions related to arts education, field services, and operations. She represents New Mexico Arts as a member of the boards of directors of the Capitol Art Foundation and the New Mexico Association of Grantmakers. She has been in her present position since 1999.

A Santa Fe native, Virginia earned a B.B.A. with a concentration in management from the College of Santa Fe. She has studied dance – flamenco, tap, and ballet – as well as Raku pottery. Before coming to New Mexico Arts, for six years, Virginia was executive director of the Guadalupe Historic Foundation that administered the historic Santuario de Guadalupe in Santa Fe.
