Current Art in Public Places Projects

All New Mexico Arts public arts projects are fair and open competitions pursuant to section 13-4A-8 (1997 Repl.) of the Art in Public Places Act (Section 13-4A-1 through 11, NMSA 1978). Once chosen to create and supply a work of art to the New Mexico Art in Public Places Program, the Artist enters into a contract with the State. The contract is a legal and enforceable document, necessary to ensure responsibilities are understood and timelines are met.

Current NMArts Projects:

Prospectus 192 - Deadline: 5:00pm MST June 12, 2008 AIPP TIME Project - Temporary Installations Made for the Environment – Carlsbad The Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) of New Mexico Arts (NMA) seeks to commission
up to ten temporary environmentally based artworks to be installed in various locations in Carlsbad. Available sites include but are not limited to the Carlsbad Museum, Carlsbad Court House, Carlsbad Library and the County Administration Building.

Project intent: The Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) of New Mexico Arts seeks to commission up to ten temporary, visually engaging and conceptually rich environmental artworks to be exhibited in and around Carlsbad, New Mexico. The proposed artworks should relate to this year’s theme Cielo.

The project is open to all artists that are residents of New Mexico.
Artist must receive a prospectus to apply.

Prospectus 194 - Deadline: 5:00pm MST June 26, 2008 ENMU, Portales NM New Mexico Arts and Eastern New Mexico University wish to commission an artwork for the newly renovated Science Building located on the University’s campus in Portales, New Mexico. Artists submitting qualifications should be experienced in creating environments or installations on a large scale. The LSC seeks an artist able to create a project that will unify the entire Science Building and elements from all branches of science. The artwork may use any or all of the available space to illustrate this theme.

Project amount: $70,000

Up to five finalists will be chosen. Open to all artists that are citizens of and reside within the United States. .
Artist must receive a prospectus to apply.
