Deming Arts Council
Jessemay Searcy is the Executive Director of the Deming Arts Council where she leads the organization and oversees volunteers, greets visitors to the Deming Art Center, and builds relationships with artists, local government, businesses, and school district. The only paid position at the arts council, she is key to maintaining its studio tour, art fest, workshops, youth art show, student scholarships, and art center. She has helped to promote regional art forms including beadwork, gourd art, and silver jewelry. She enjoys working with children and designs workshops and events that promote the arts to children. In addition, she has helped to promote artists from smaller communities to market and sell their art through the Columbus Artist’s Show.
Searcy studied Ceramics for six years at Humboldt State University and College of the Redwoods in Northern California. She earned a minor in Art Studio and received a B.A. in Native American Studies. She belongs to several online artist communities including photography and writing groups. She enjoys working in many artistic mediums but her current interests are clay, photography, and writing.
The Deming Arts Council promotes and supports the arts in Deming. The Deming Center for the Arts presents a new exhibit each month. The exhibits range from work by students as well-known area artists.
